Daniel Raichvarg
Daniel Raichvarg is Professor of Information and Communication Sciences at the University of Bourgogne, France.
His academic career combines biology, philosophy and history of science, pedagogy, communication sciences, and the public understanding of science. He obtained his PhD at the University of Paris 7 in the fields of communication, pedagogy and history of science.
In 2000, he became Full Professor of Communication Sciences at the University of Burgundy, where he created a research unit devoted to the transmission of scientific knowledge and communication sciences. His work contributed to the development of institutional links between researchers, public and political institutions, and private companies.
His research focuses on popular media forms of public understanding of science, science and society, science communication, cultural mediation, sustainable development, and the social implications of health, biological and technological knowledge.
He developed the Science and Society programme at the University of Bourgogne and established the Experimentarium, an innovative face-to-face science communication initiative involving doctoral students. The project received the Diderot Award for innovative projects in scientific culture and has become a model for other universities.
He served as Vice-Rector of the University of Burgundy in charge of cultural affairs and is Honorary President of the French Society for Information and Communication Studies, following two terms as its President.
He has acted as an expert and reviewer for outreach programmes, the French National Research Agency, the European Commission, and several scientific and cultural institutions. He is also special advisor to the French Academy of Sciences for Terre de Louis Pasteur – sciences and heritage, where he coordinates the Ferments Road Initiatives programme.
