Państwo i Społeczeństwo / State and Society

About

Państwo i Społeczeństwo / State and Society is a peer-reviewed academic journal published by AFM Publishing House of Andrzej Frycz Modrzewski Krakow University. Established in 2001, the journal provides an interdisciplinary forum for high-quality research on the relationships between public institutions, health systems, social structures, governance, education, spatial development, and organisational performance.

Since 2026, Państwo i Społeczeństwo / State and Society has been published as an annual journal with continuous publication. This means that articles are published online on an ongoing basis after editorial acceptance, peer review, copyediting, and production, and are subsequently included in the annual volume. This publishing model supports faster dissemination of accepted research while maintaining the journal’s annual publication structure and editorial continuity.

The journal publishes articles in English and Polish. In line with the journal’s international development strategy, authors are strongly encouraged to submit manuscripts in English, which is the recommended language for new submissions. Manuscripts in Polish may also be considered, particularly when their subject matter is relevant to the journal’s scope and readership. Regardless of the language of the manuscript, the journal aims to ensure clear, complete, and internationally readable article metadata.

The journal is committed to publishing methodologically rigorous and intellectually relevant scholarship that advances understanding of contemporary societies and the institutions that shape them. Its scope reflects the complexity of modern public life, where health, governance, management, education, communication, psychology, and the built environment increasingly intersect.

State and Society welcomes original research articles, review papers, case studies, and editorial commentaries in health sciences, social sciences, management and quality sciences, public administration, pedagogy, psychology, communication and media studies, architecture, and urban planning. The journal particularly values empirical, comparative, interdisciplinary, and policy-relevant contributions that offer clear theoretical, methodological, or practical insight.

A substantial part of the journal’s profile is devoted to health sciences, public health, healthcare organisation, quality improvement, and system performance. At the same time, the journal remains open to broader social, institutional, educational, psychological, managerial, communicative, and spatial perspectives on the development of contemporary societies.
