M. Katarzyna Banasik-Petri is Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Fine Arts at Andrzej Frycz Modrzewski Krakow University and a lecturer in architecture. She has supervised and reviewed numerous engineering and master’s theses.

Her academic and research activity focuses on the shaping of contemporary architecture from an interdisciplinary perspective. Her main research areas include:

  • the evolution of contemporary Icelandic architecture, its development in relation to historical heritage and local cultural conditions, as well as the dialogue between traditional form and modern design, considered in the context of dynamic urbanisation processes and pressures resulting from the intensive development of the tourism sector;
  • the transformation of contemporary cities in Japan and the Far East in the context of socio-economic and cultural paradigms, with particular emphasis on the evolution of housing and urban typologies determined by dynamic demographic changes, including population ageing and the nuclear family model, as well as the specific characteristics of local real estate markets;
  • Japanese architecture, in particular research into the formal evolution of traditional elements of Japanese architecture, based on a comparative analysis of traditional and contemporary Japanese architecture, with particular emphasis on the continuity and transformation of historical formal patterns.

Her academic and research work is conducted in parallel with design practice and organisational activity. She is involved in the academic community, co-creating educational and research projects, including educational workshops and conferences devoted to contemporary architecture. She is active in the Krakow Branch of the Polish Academy of Sciences, where she serves as secretary of the Section of Far Eastern Architecture.

She is a licensed architect and a member of the Lesser Poland Regional Chamber of Architects. As part of her design practice, she runs her own studio, F2Studio Biuro Projektów. She is the author and co-author of numerous completed works and architectural designs, including award-winning and distinguished projects, mainly in the fields of residential architecture and interior architecture. She is also a member of the Association of Polish Architects.
