Her academic and research activity focuses on issues related to the shaping of contemporary architecture from an interdisciplinary perspective. Her main research areas include:
• the evolution of contemporary Icelandic architecture, its creation in relation to historical heritage and local cultural conditions, as well as the dialogue between traditional form and modern design creation, considered in the context of dynamic urbanisation processes and pressures resulting from the intensive development of the tourism sector;
• the transformation of contemporary cities in Japan and the Far East in the context of socio-economic and cultural paradigms; this area focuses on the evolution of housing and urban typologies determined by dynamic demographic changes, including the ageing of societies and the nuclear family model, as well as the specific characteristics of local real estate markets;
• Japanese architecture, in particular research into the process of formal evolution of traditional elements of Japanese architecture; her work focuses on a comparative analysis of traditional and contemporary Japanese architecture, with particular emphasis on the continuity and transformation of historical formal patterns.
