Abstract

Organ transplantation is one of the most advanced life-saving medical procedures, yet public attitudes towards it remain diverse. The aim of this study was to analyze social attitudes towards organ donation in relation to cognitive, emotional and behavioural components, as well as empathy, altruism and sociodemographic variables.

A diagnostic survey was conducted among 112 respondents. The study used an original author-developed questionnaire, as well as questionnaires assessing empathy and altruism.

The results revealed high acceptance of transplantation but a significant gap between declared attitudes and actual behaviours. The behavioural component was the strongest predictor of willingness to donate organs (r = 0.759), with empathy and altruism also playing important roles. The findings highlight the need for targeted educational and social interventions to increase actual donor behaviours.
