Valentín Trillo Martínez is an architect and holds a PhD in Architecture from the University of Seville. He is Associate Professor in the Department of Architectural Design at the School of Architecture, University of Seville. Since September 2025, he has served as Deputy Director for External Relations and International Affairs at the School of Architecture, University of Seville.
His doctoral dissertation, Mies in Barcelona: Architecture, Representation and Memory, was awarded by the Instituto de la Construcción and published in the Kora collection, with a foreword by Dietrich Neumann. The book also received the award for Best Monograph at the 21st National University Publishing Awards in the category of Science, Engineering and Architecture.
His scholarly work focuses on architectural design, Mies van der Rohe, Lilly Reich, archaeology, heritage, exhibition design and the interpretation of cultural heritage. He has published academic articles in journals including PH and PPA, among others.
Since 2009, he has lectured in the master’s programme in archaeology adapted to the European Higher Education Area, within the module devoted to the dissemination and interpretation of heritage. He has also taught in the postgraduate master’s programme in interior design at the University of Seville and has delivered lectures and seminars in Spain and abroad, including events devoted to architecture, heritage, colour, landscape and exhibition design.
He has participated in teaching innovation and improvement projects at the University of Seville, including projects focused on new methodologies for autonomous and collaborative learning among architecture students, housing and inhabitation, and coordinated methodologies for integrated learning in architectural design courses.
He directed the XVIII and XIX Summer Courses organised by the University of Almería and the Official College of Architects of Almería, devoted respectively to the strategic master plan for the rehabilitation of the urban centre of Almería and to the agricultural city as a continuous city.
He participated in the General Archaeological Research Project Italicus. Archaeological and Heritage Analysis of the Houses of Patio Rodio and Cañada Honda in Itálica in Seville, implemented in 2014–2021, and in the project Itálica Adrianea: La “Nova Urbs”, implemented in 2020–2024.
He is Director of Vtrilloarquitectos, S.L., a practice specialised in the architectural development of projects for leading international museography firms. With more than 25 years of professional experience, his team has designed and technically developed immersive spaces, including Expo pavilions, museums, temporary exhibitions, visitor centres, corporate spaces and installations.
The studio’s work covers narrative and design development from concept to completion, including fabrication, implementation and construction supervision. Its projects have been developed in countries including China, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Germany, Iran, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Morocco, Oman, Qatar, Portugal, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, the United States of America and Türkiye.
The practice has collaborated with recognised exhibition companies such as Acciona Cultural Engineering, Boris Micka Associates, Empty, Icaria Atelier, Ingenia, Nussli, Ralph Appelbaum Associates and Tamschick media+space. It has also participated in International and Universal Expos, including Hannover 2000, Aichi 2005, Zaragoza 2008, Yeosu 2012, Milan 2015, Dubai 2020 and Osaka 2025.
