Legal Comparison of Unilateral Declaration of Independence and Secession

Abstract
This article defines the term unilateral declaration (UD) from a legal perspective and explores different types thereof. It examines parities and disparities between non-consensual acts of unilateral declaration of independence (UDI), illicit secession and self-determination. The paper concludes by explaining why public international law considers unwarranted acts of UDI as unlawful.
