As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
- The file has been carefully prepared in accordance with the Author Guidelines.
- I submit two files: an anonymized manuscript with an abstract and keywords, and a 'title page' file containing identifying information and statements as specified in the 'Title page' section of the Author Guidelines
- As an academic paper presenting new research findings, the article falls within the aims and scope of the journal.
- The article is not a repetition or compilation of previous works, including those by the same author (text recycling/self-plagiarism).
- The article has not been previously published or submitted simultaneously to any other publisher.

Abstracts and Keywords ↑ TOC
Abstract
- Background/Context: A brief introduction to the global/regional issues.
- Purpose/Objective: The research objective or main thesis/research question.
- Methods: The applied methodological approach (e.g., quantitative analysis, qualitative discourse analysis, process tracing, case study).
- Results: The key empirical or theoretical findings and conclusions.
- Conclusions: The significance of the research for international relations theory or practice.
Keywords (5 to 7)
- Should precisely reflect the content of the article.
- General terms (e.g., "international relations", "politics") should be avoided in favor of specific terms (e.g., "energy security", "constructivism", "Baltic Sea region", "EU foreign policy").
- It should be ensured that keywords differ from the words used in the title (this increases search engine visibility).
References and Citations ↑ TOC
For scholarly literature, the journal follows a reference style based on APA 7th edition (both in-text citations and in the bibliography). For statutory instruments and case law, traditional legal footnotes should be used.
Scholarly Literature Rules:
- Alphabetical order by author/editor surname; multiple works by the same author should be ordered chronologically (add letters a, b, c for works published in the same year).
- Provide active DOI identifiers for all references where available.
- Do not use Latin abbreviations such as ibidem, idem, or op. cit. in parenthetical citations.

Tables, Figures, Charts, and Illustrations ↑ TOC
Tables, figures, charts, photographs, and illustrations should be numbered separately and consecutively. Each element must have a clear title or caption and must be referred to in the main text. Figures and photographs should be inserted close to the place where they are discussed and provided as separate graphic files (min. 300 dpi, formats: .jpg, .png, .tif, .tiff).
Charts should be clear and readable (preferably greyscale, avoid 3D). Each table and chart must include a source note (e.g., “own work”).
Article Types ↑ TOC
The journal accepts the following types of manuscripts:
Original Research Articles
Primary publication type presenting new empirical or theoretical research results that make a significant contribution to International Relations, Security Studies, and Political Science.
Structure (IMRAD Standard):
- Title: Concise, specific (up to 12–15 words).
- Abstract & Keywords: Standard format (150–250 words, 5–7 keywords).
- Introduction: Relevance, research gap, literature review, research questions/hypotheses.
- Methodology: Data collection methods, analytical tools, limitations.
- Results / Analysis: Evidence supporting the thesis, presented via tables/charts.
- Discussion: Comparison with previous research and theories.
- Conclusions: Theoretical/policy implications and future research directions.
Review Articles
Comprehensive, critical synthesis of the current state of knowledge, offering evaluation, structuring, and meta-analysis of existing literature rather than primary empirical data.
Structure:
- Title: Must indicate a review (e.g., "A Review of...", "Mapping...").
- Introduction: Rationale, scope definition, guiding questions.
- Methodology of the Review: Literature selection strategy, search formulas, inclusion/exclusion criteria.
- Thematic Analysis and Synthesis: Critical comparison of scholarly schools of thought.
- Discussion and Critical Gaps: Scholarly contradictions and geographic/methodological blind spots.
- Conclusions and Future Research Agenda: Overarching insights and recommendations.
General Requirements ↑ TOC
Manuscripts submitted to the journal must meet the following structural and stylistic standards:
- academic in nature and aligned with the aims and scope of the journal;
- clear research problem, objectives, and methodology;
- logical, original conclusions fully supported by the material;
- clear, precise academic language;
- strict adherence to formatting and referencing guidelines.
Ethical Requirements ↑ TOC
Authors must comply with COPE publication ethics standards, confirming that:
- the manuscript is entirely original (no self-plagiarism or duplication);
- it has not been published previously and is not under consideration elsewhere;
- all authors approved the final version (no ghostwriting/guest authorship);
- sources and third-party rights are fully respected and cited;
- conflicts of interest and funding sources are disclosed.
Manuscript Length and File Format ↑ TOC
Original research articles: up to 40,000 characters including spaces. Review articles: length should be proportionate to the scope.
Format requirements:
- Microsoft Word (.doc, .docx)
- Times New Roman, 12-point font, 1.5 line spacing
- Foreign terms, Latin maxims, and publication titles in italics (avoid bold/underline for emphasis)
- Consistent abbreviations with full explanations at first use
Use of Artificial Intelligence Tools and Generative AI Declaration ↑ TOC
Generative AI tools cannot be listed as authors. Using AI to generate entire manuscripts, fabricated data, or fake citations is strictly prohibited.
If AI tools were used for language editing, formatting, or data analysis, this must be transparently disclosed in the dedicated declaration on the Title Page.
Supplementary Materials ↑ TOC
This information must be included on the Title Page. Describe any additional online materials (survey questionnaires, raw dataset tables, appendices). Each file should be clearly identified in the text (e.g., Table S1, Appendix S1).
Author Contributions (CRediT) ↑ TOC
This statement must be included on the Title Page. Provide a short paragraph detailing individual contributions using the CRediT taxonomy (e.g., "Conceptualization, X.X. and Y.Y.; Methodology, X.X.; Writing – Original Draft, X.X.").
Funding ↑ TOC
This statement must be included on the Title Page. Disclose financial support naming the agency and grant number, or state: "This research received no external funding."
Ethics Approval Statement ↑ TOC
This statement must be included on the Title Page. For empirical legal/social studies involving human participants, provide details of institutional review. For purely theoretical/doctrinal analyses, state: "Not applicable."
Informed Consent Statement ↑ TOC
This statement must be included on the Title Page. Declare that informed consent was obtained where applicable. For non-empirical manuscripts, state: "Not applicable."
Data Availability Statement ↑ TOC
This statement must be included on the Title Page. For doctrinal legal analysis based on public sources, state: "Data sharing is not applicable to this article as no new empirical datasets were created or analyzed (doctrinal legal analysis)."
Acknowledgments ↑ TOC
This section must be included on the Title Page, where applicable. Recognize administrative, technical, or linguistic support. Note that AI use declarations must go to their dedicated section, not here.

This statement must be included on the Title Page. Declare any professional/financial relationships, or state: "The authors declare no conflict of interest."

Authors retain copyright and full publishing rights to their articles published in Krakowskie Studia Międzynarodowe / Krakow International Studies. The journal supports transparent, lawful, and responsible dissemination of scholarly publications.
Author Rights and Publisher’s Rights
Authors retain copyright and grant the journal right of first publication, with the work simultaneously licensed under a Creative Commons licence that allows others to share the work for non-commercial purposes with an acknowledgement of the work's authorship and initial publication in this journal.
By submitting and publishing a manuscript in Krakowskie Studia Międzynarodowe / Krakow International Studies, authors grant the Publisher a non-exclusive licence to disseminate the published version of record through the journal’s website, indexing databases, institutional repositories, and other scholarly communication channels.

Archival Policy & Access
Full-text volumes from 2014 onwards are entirely accessible on the journal's website. For volumes published between 2007 (starting with the first issue under the title Problemy Bezpieczeństwa) and 2013, which were distributed solely in print format, tables of contents are available on the journal’s website.
Print editions may be used under the statutory fair use provisions pursuant to Articles 23–35 of the Polish Act of February 4, 1994, on Copyright and Related Rights.

Krakowskie Studia Międzynarodowe / Krakow International Studies respects the privacy of authors, reviewers, editors, readers, and all users of the journal’s website and submission system.
The personal data entered into this journal site and the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform are used exclusively for managing editorial, peer review, publishing, indexing, archiving, and scholarly communication workflows. These data will not be used for purposes unrelated to the journal and will never be sold or made available to third parties for commercial use.

Categories of Personal Data
Depending on the user’s role and activity in the journal workflow, the following categories of personal data may be processed:
- full name and academic title;
- e-mail address;
- institutional affiliation and address;
- country of affiliation;
- ORCID iD and other persistent researcher identifiers (if provided);
- user account credentials (username, encrypted password);
- editorial correspondence and communication records;
- manuscript submissions, metadata, and uploaded files;
- authorship, contributorship (CRediT), and funding statements;
- reviewer subject expertise and peer-review history;
- editorial decisions, review reports, and tracking records;
- technical data related to website and OJS usage (IP address, browser type, server access logs, and necessary cookies).
Purposes and Legal Grounds for Processing
Personal data are processed in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council (General Data Protection Regulation – GDPR) under the following legal grounds:
- Performance of editorial workflows (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR): creating and managing user accounts, managing submissions, double-blind peer review, typesetting, proofreading, and publishing;
- Compliance with legal obligations (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR): meeting university statutory reporting obligations, maintaining copyright records, and statutory archiving;
- Legitimate interests of the Controller (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR): ensuring scholarly communication, maintaining the permanent integrity of the academic record, investigating potential publication malpractice (plagiarism, authorship disputes), defending against legal claims, and securing the IT infrastructure of the platform;
- User consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR): where users voluntarily provide optional profile data or subscribe to journal notifications.
Publication of Author Data
By submitting a manuscript, authors acknowledge that if accepted for publication, selected personal data necessary for international scholarly communication will be made publicly available. This includes: author name, institutional affiliation, country, ORCID iD, corresponding e-mail address, acknowledgments, contributor roles, and funding statements.
Article metadata are deposited permanently into international indexing and citation databases (e.g. Index Copernicus, BazHum, CEJSH, CEEOL, EBSCO, PBN), institutional repositories (such as eRIKA), and Crossref for persistent DOI registration.
Reviewer and Editorial Confidentiality
Personal data of reviewers are processed strictly to administer the peer-review process. The journal operates a double-blind peer-review system, meaning reviewer identities are never disclosed to authors.
Peer-review reports, editorial decisions, and associated correspondence are archived securely within OJS to preserve the accountability, rigor, and auditability of the publishing process.
Data Retention
Personal data are retained only as long as necessary to achieve the scholarly purposes for which they were collected:
- Published articles and associated metadata: retained permanently to preserve the continuity and integrity of the scholarly record;
- Rejected or withdrawn submissions: retained securely within the OJS archive as necessary to document editorial decisions and prevent redundant duplicate submissions;
- User account records: retained until an account deletion request is made, provided that it does not conflict with preserving authorship records of published works.
Rights of Data Subjects
Under the GDPR, data subjects are entitled to exercise the following rights:
- the right of access and the right to obtain a copy of their personal data;
- the right to rectification of inaccurate or incomplete personal data;
- the right to erasure (subject to limitations concerning permanent scientific publications);
- the right to restriction of processing;
- the right to object to processing;
- the right to lodge a complaint with the competent supervisory authority: the President of the Personal Data Protection Office (UODO, ul. Stawki 2, 00-193 Warsaw, Poland).
