Copyright and Licensing
Authors retain copyright in their articles published in Medicine and Public Health. Published articles are made available under the Creative Commons Attribution–NonCommercial–NoDerivatives 4.0 International licence (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0), unless otherwise stated.
Author Rights and Publisher’s Rights
Authors retain copyright and retain the right to use and disseminate their work in accordance with the applicable Creative Commons licence and the journal’s publishing policy.
By publishing an article in Medicine and Public Health, the Author grants the journal and the Publisher the right of first formal journal publication and a non-exclusive right to publish, reproduce, distribute, archive, preserve, and make the Version of Record available through the journal’s website, institutional repositories, indexing and abstracting services, digital preservation systems, and other scholarly communication channels.
The non-exclusive nature of this arrangement means that copyright remains with the Author. Publication by the journal does not transfer copyright ownership to the Publisher.
Creative Commons Licence
Articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution–NonCommercial–NoDerivatives 4.0 International licence (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0), unless otherwise stated.
Under this licence, users may copy and redistribute the published material in any medium or format for non-commercial purposes, provided that the applicable licence conditions are respected.
Appropriate credit must be given to the Author or Authors and other attribution parties identified with the work. Attribution information supplied with the article should be retained.
A link to the applicable CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 licence must be provided when the material is shared.
Where reasonably practicable, users should retain a link to the licensed material. For scholarly use, citation of the original article, including its DOI where available, is strongly recommended.
If any changes have been made to the material, this must be indicated, and information about previous modifications should be retained where applicable.
The licensed material may not be used for commercial purposes under the CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 licence.
If the material is remixed, transformed, translated, or otherwise adapted, the modified material may not be distributed under the CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 licence.
Users may not apply legal terms or technological measures that legally restrict others from doing anything permitted by the licence.
Uses Outside the Licence
CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 does not authorise commercial use or the distribution of adapted material. Such uses may therefore require separate permission from the copyright holder unless they are otherwise permitted by applicable law.
Nothing in the Creative Commons licence limits uses that are permitted independently under applicable copyright exceptions or limitations.
Self-Archiving Policy
Authors are permitted and encouraged to deposit versions of their work in institutional repositories, subject repositories, and personal academic websites without an embargo period, subject to the conditions described below.
The submitted preprint may be posted at any time, provided that its prior availability is disclosed to the journal where relevant.
The accepted manuscript and the published Version of Record may be deposited immediately upon publication in institutional repositories, including eRIKA, and in public scholarly repositories. When the Version of Record is redistributed, it should remain unmodified and should include full bibliographic attribution, the DOI or other persistent link where available, and a link to the applicable CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 licence.
Third-Party Material
The CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 licence applies only to material for which the relevant rights are covered by the licence. Third-party material included in an article may be subject to separate copyright, licence, permission, privacy, or other legal restrictions.
Authors are responsible for obtaining all permissions required for the use and publication of third-party material, including figures, tables, images, clinical photographs, excerpts, and other protected content.
Where third-party material is not covered by the article’s Creative Commons licence, this should be indicated clearly through an appropriate credit line, copyright notice, licence statement, or permission statement.

Where separate permission is required, permission must be obtained from the relevant copyright holder or other rights holder.
