Code of Ethics

Ethical Issues and Conduct

Medicine and Public Health follows the Recommendations for the Conduct, Reporting, Editing, and Publication of Scholarly Work in Medical Journals, issued by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE Recommendations). The Publisher strongly encourages all authors, reviewers, and editors to adhere to the principles of publication and scientific research ethics.

Only original manuscripts that have neither been previously published or submitted in other journals, nor considered to be published elsewhere will be admitted to publishing in Medicine and Public Health.

All individuals who have significantly contributed to the manuscript and met all four criteria for authorship in the ICMJE Recommendations are considered co-authors.

All co-authors are obliged to indicate their contribution to the publication (design, performance, analysis, and reporting of the work etc.) and agree to be accountable for all aspects of the work. One co-author may indicate more than one type of contribution and the same type of contribution may be indicated by more than one co-author.

Authors should properly acknowledge the contribution of others, such as provision of reagents or analytical tools etc. Any forms of help which do not fulfil the authorship criteria should be disclosed in the “Acknowledgements” section.

We abide by the Code of Conduct of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and aim to adhere to its Best Practice Guidelines.

All acts of ethical misconduct including guest authorship, ghost writing, data manipulation, multiple, redundant, or concurrent publications etc. will be dealt according to the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Medicine and Public Health pursue alleged cases following the COPE flowcharts where applicable.

Authors at the moment of manuscript submission must disclose any conflicts of interest that might influence the results or their interpretation. All sources of financial support should be disclosed in the manuscript (including the grant number or identification of other funding sources).

Medicine and Public Health uses Conflict of Interest form created by International Committee of Medical Journal Editors available at: http://www.icmje.org/conflicts-of-interest/.

All research involving human subjects or animal experimentation must be approved by the relevant local ethics committee and the text of the article must contain relevant information. Medicine and Public Health expect all research involving human subjects to have been carried out in accordance with the principles set out in the Declaration of Helsinki and informed consent must be obtained from all participants. All research involving animal experimentation should have been conducted in accordance with the Interdisciplinary Principles and Guidelines for the Use of Animals in Research, Testing and Education issued by the New York Academy of Sciences Ad Hoc Committee on Animal Research. The Journal Editors encourage authors to follow best ethical practice in scientific research.
