Physical Activity of Seniors in Małopolska – Barriers, Motivations, and Benefits

The aim of the article is to highlight the importance of physical activity for the health, well-being, and independence of seniors in the Małopolska region. Based on the author’s own research conducted among a group of 460 seniors residing in Małopolska, concerning their physical and social activity, the study seeks to identify the main barriers limiting older adults’ engagement in physical activity as well as the role of social factors in motivating them to be active. The article also aims to emphasize the need to develop and implement initiatives that support seniors through programs and exercises adapted to their individual capabilities.

The Work of the Nurse in Multicultural Settings: An Analysis of Emotions, Challenges, Cultural Knowledge Management Practices and Intersectoral Collaboration

In the face of intensifying migration trends, the healthcare system in Poland faces the challenge of adapting medical services to the needs of a culturally diverse society. Transcultural nursing care takes on particular significance, requiring not only professional competence but also emotional flexibility and adaptability. The aim of this article is to provide an in-depth analysis of the experiences, feelings, and emotions of nurses working in a multicultural environment. At the same time, the aim is to identify barriers and explore best practices regarding intercultural knowledge exchange in daily professional practice. The study employed a critical literature review and individual in-depth interviews (IDIs) conducted with 12 nurses employed in healthcare facilities in the Silesian Voivodeship. Thematic analysis revealed attitudes of openness towards patients from different cultural backgrounds, but also pointed to significant barriers  - linguistic, organizational, and emotional  - that hinder the provision of transcultural nursing care of adequate quality. Intercultural knowledge is managed primarily informally, and intersectoral cooperation remains insufficiently developed, which has significant implications for health policy and management practices in medical facilities.

Closed circle? Accessibility – rhetoric – film. Reception of Polish Documentary Films about Art

In an era of ostensibly unrestricted digital openness and cultural inclusivity, access to documentary films on art in Poland remains significantly constrained – not only for technological or sensory reasons, but above all due to educational and economic barriers. The aim of this article is to examine the contradiction between the rhetoric of accessibility and the actual accessibility of Polish documentary films devoted to art and artists.

The study addresses the following research questions. How do cultural institutions and film producers in Poland conceptualize and communicate the economic accessibility of films about art? What are the actual mechanisms that limit access to such content, including pricing policies, licensing restrictions, geographical availability and forms of digital exclusion? Does an alternative, grassroots infrastructure of access to Polish art documentaries exist, and if so, in what ways does it operate? Finally, how might the concept of accessibility be redefined within the broader framework of the political economy of culture? To address these questions, the study employs a mixed-methods approach, combining an analysis of scholarly discourse on the subject with survey-based empirical research.
